Preparatory Meeting of International Conference on Marxist Critical Theory in Eastern Europe

Keynote speaker: Agnes Heller

International Conference on Marxist Critical Theory in Eastern Europe (ICMCTEE2018) will be held during November 16-19, 2018 in Chengdu City, Sichuan province, China. This will be an opportunity for the presentation of advances and research results in a wide variety of Eastern Europe Marxist Critical Theory Study, to enhance the world-wide research of Marxist critical theories, to share studies of the critical theory of Eastern Europe, and to promote the construction of Chinese Marxism and its aesthetics.

ICMCTEE2018 is sponsored by the College of Literature and Journalism of Sichuan University and the Key Project of the China National Social Science Fund “Bibliography and Research of Eastern Europe Marxist Aesthetics”,co-sponsored by Thesis Eleven Journal, the Research Center for Marxist Theory of Literature and Art of the College of Literature and Journalism of Sichuan University, and the Marxist aesthetics committee of China association of aesthetics.

Renowned scholars will be invited to give theme lectures and to conduct extensive discussions with the participants by means of keynote speeches and interactive communication. Professor Ágnes Heller from Hungary, a major philosopher of Budapest School under the leadership of György Lukács, will open the conference with a keynote speech and join in proceedings as an guest of honor. The conference aims to bring together researchers and scholars in this area from all over the world, to contribute as keynote speakers, to discuss the main theme and share insights in the area.

Theme:Marxist Critical Theory in Eastern Europe

Specific topics:

  • The philosophical basis of Marxist Critical Theory in Eastern Europe
  • Marxist aesthetics and cultural theory in Eastern Europe
  • The history and future of the world Marxist philosophy and aesthetics
  • Studies of eminent Marxist critical theorists in Eastern Europe
  •  Critical theory in Eastern Europe vs. Marxism in China, Soviet Russia, and the West

Call for papers

All participants are invited to submit conference papers and outlines around these themes. Please fill out the contact form below for more information about how to apply. The organizing committee will be accepting applications until the 30th of June 2018.  The organizing committee will issue a formal invitation to each participant in early July. After the conference, the best papers will be published in leading journals such as Thesis Eleven (Australia), Cultural Studies and Literary Theory (China, CSSCI), Marxist Aesthetics Research China, CSSCI).
