Celebrating Professor Stuart Macintyre (1947-2021)
When: 15 July 2022, 6pm-8pm (AEST)
Where: The Melbourne Athenaeum Library, 188 Collins Street Melbourne
The Melbourne Athenaeum will this month host the launch of The Work of History: writing for Stuart Macintyre, which celebrates the eminent historian.
The book, edited by Peter Beilharz and Sian Supski, sees leading scholars writing about Professor Macintyre’s contribution to understanding radicalism and communism, postwar reconstruction, education and civics, universities, liberalism, and the history wars. It serves as both a snapshot of the state of the historian’s art and an introduction to those who came more recently to this field.
Professor Macintyre deliverered the Melbourne Athenaeum’s 2016 Marcus Clarke Lecture and a number of his works can be found in the library’s collection. Professor Macintyre passed away in November 2021.
Members and guests wishing to attend the book launch should RSVP by calling 9650 3100 or emailing library@melbourneathenaeum.org.au. Refreshments will be provided.
